Storyville

The city was dead. Like nothing I have seen before, it was a long way away from the streets of London I was used to, it was almost as if no one had ever lived here. It was cold and lifeless. There was no sound apart from our single footsteps echoing through this industrial graveyard. The shapes that were left towering out of the ground could only remind me of tombstones, soulless structures that had no purpose anymore.

We were sent to Chernobyl by one of the world’s leading nuclear companies in London, England. The journey here wasn’t too stressful, the plane was calm and so comforting, I think it made us all forget the daunting task ahead. Researching in such an empty shell of a city was near enough impossible I have no idea what we will find. When we stepped off the plane we were greeted by our guide, his name was Borris Schaueff, but he allowed us to call him Pudds. He had pale skin that was a ghostly shade of white; he had light brown hair with a few specs of grey. He didn’t look like the sort of tour guide you would normally expect to meet, I was so used to the happy and bubbly guides, now Pudds was nothing like that, and every time he looked at me I felt slightly uncomfortable. He was eerie and weird.  This was nothing like me, at home I’m probably the most confident person you would ever meet, I like to say I live in the fast lane trying everything I can in life once. My motto has always been, you have one life so live it to the full.

Me and the rest of the team who I had known for a few years now all jumped into Pudds’s truck and set off to the city of death, that’s what everyone we had told about our expedition described it as.

Great piece of writing from a year 10 student.
