Damaged Goods Workshops

Following the great performance of Damaged Goods by Facing Tides, students took part in a range of workshops.

Students produced a leaflet to help other people recognise the warning signs of being at risk and where to go to get help. They also made a page for this website and created these wonderful pieces of art.

Facing Tides

On Monday, SLC had one of their Healthy Schools DaysThis term’s theme was ‘Reducing Risk-Taking Behaviour’! ‘Facing Tides’ theatre company started the day giving us a performance of their new play.

“The story approaches the issues teenagers struggle with, including the miscommunication and misunderstandings within families. Other issues such as suicide, despair, and reconciliation are addressed along with drug use. The horrors associated with living on the street are touched on sensitively in this emotionally charged drama.” Facing Tides Theatre Company

The play was enjoyed by all and illustrated that whatever the problem, there is always Hope!

Closed due to snow

We are closed today, Friday 18 January, due to the snow. Almost all our students and staff have to travel quite a distance by car and the roads aren’t clear enough for me to feel that everyone could get to the centre safely. It’s better to miss a day and have everyone in safe and sound when it clears up than risk something awful happening.

Stay safe and enjoy the snow and unless you hear otherwise, we’ll see everyone on Monday!

Christmas at Castle Gardens

M2On Friday Dillon visited Castle Gardens with Darren and Jemma to see all the amazing Christmas decorations. We found this incredible train set which Dillon particularly liked. We all had a great morning but unfortunately we didn’t get to see Father Christmas….

Maybe next year.

Compost!

The GCSE group go on a field trip…to the compost heap to look for bugs and beetles and other such creepy crawlies.

All the organic waste from students kitchen preparations and LOADS of tea bags have been quietly added to the black plastic containers in the garden…time has passed and the detritivores and decomposers have been getting to work breaking down and recycling the material and nutrients.

Hopefully it will be used on the garden for next year’s vegetables.

Peace, Europe, Future

This year the European Union was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

We’ve been submitting entries to the competition the EU is organising to choose delegates to accept the prize on behalf of the whole of Europe!

The question to be answered is “What does peace in Europe mean to you?”

Fingers crossed!
