Film Club

Film Club resumed today with a showing of the Johnny Depp blockbuster ‘ Public Enemies’ .

Truly awful was the considered opinion of all of the group, with absolutely no-one being prepared to sit through break to see the end. The dialogue was difficult to hear most of the time, the shoot outs were, it was unanimously decided, utterly ridiculous and the story line was boring beyond belief.

Most of the us agreed that Johnny Depp is a fine actor, particularly his early work (and Pirates obviously) but this is far far far from his finest hour.

Film Club will be on a Wednesday at 1st period on week 1 and Thursday 2nd period week 2

Next weeks film will be ‘Phone Booth’

Apologies to all who endured Public Enemies, and Thanks to Kieran and Jay for help with the review.

It does go to show that young people are not taken in by superficial “wham, blam, takka takka, takka” action scenes but actually do know that storyline and realism are important. Film club certainly has the potential to cause our students to reflect more. And that can only be a good thing.

Keep going with the film club – as Mick says it has so much more to offer our students and if it helps stimulate their opinions – good or bad – and how to express them in a healthy way, it will have achieved one good thing at least.
