May 1st, 2009 by PhilS in Links for students

The Art studio was buzzing with activity and spray cans today. Bronwyn, James, Carl, Devon, Dylan and Jay all worked on stencil art pieces. Esme, Emily S, Chelsea and Jess all looked at Charles Rennie Mackintosh and used his “White Cockade” and “Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts” poster as inspiration for some beautiful spray and digital art.

The Image on the left is spray art, 1000mmx2000mm, the two at the top are digital.

Great work from eveyone involved, thank you.

Holocaust Rememberance Day

April 19th, 2009 by Ian in curriculum, Links for students

On Wednesday 12 March we had a different day, focussed on the events of more than 60 years ago.

Jez set the scene by separating some staff and students out into a space that he told us was the size of a railway cattle truck. Political activists, gypsies, people with strange sounding names and others were all sent to the carriage. He said that 100 people would be crammed into the spaces with no food, water or toilet and be taken away to camp.

We were then told Erika’s story. In the story an old lady recounts how she had been rescued and brought up as a child with just a vague understanding that she had been thrown out of a cattle truck by her mother. The pictures Jez showed us were all grey, with no faces visible and only the odd flash of yellow, signifying the Star of David.

Megan’s Leaf Dress

April 5th, 2009 by Ian in Links for students

Megan’s brief was to make a dress using natural materials so she chose to make the body of the dress out of ivy leaves. She is now continuing the theme using different materials as she found the leaves quite difficult to work with!

Red Nose Day

March 28th, 2009 by Ian in Links for students, News

Friday 13 March was Red Nose Day and we had a variety of activities to raise money for this great event.

We started the day with a walk and then had a Ready Steady Cook competition. In afternoon we had a quiz.

Overall we raised £48.70. Well done to everyone who took part and thank you to Becki for organising it.

Adam has been getting to grips with ‘Gimp’  graphics software again and produced some great cartoon images. Working from pencil sketches we ‘inked up’ the image and then imported it into the computer and used software to colourise them.
