Callista Trip With Southampton’s Oceanography Centre

CallistaOn the 18th of September we visited the national Oceanography centre in Southampton along with a few other learning centres. We spent a day on a multi million pound research vessel christened the Callista. During the afternoon we took part in a variety of activities including:

Light penetration tests using secy disks.

Seabed trawls and wildlife examinations (pictured)

Sediment sampling.

Plankton trawl.

On top of this we also learnt about the ships systems including the GPS and I.C.T areas. Plus having a chance to pilot the Callista’s helm. Overall the day ran slightly late due to an abundance of activities and a guided visit around the Southampton docks including the Southampton boat show. Overall a very enjoyable and educational experience.
