Building Skills practical assessments

DSCF1816.JPGStudents on the CITB City & Guilds Building skills course started work on their practical assessments in bricklaying this week. The course is progressing well with 10 students enjoying one day a week focusing on learning trades associated with the construction industry. The course gives students interested in a career within construction, an opportunity to try out different skills and help them to make more informed decisions on their career direction. It is hoped that once the new premises for the course are completed places can be offered to students in all the COOSS learning centres and secondary schools throughout North Dorset. A great deal of interest and support has been forthcoming from a variety of local businesses both large and small and it is hoped to involve them in sponsorship, work experience, site visits and eventually apprenticeships for students on the course.  All 10 are aiming to achieve an NVQ level one in construction skills and are progressing well.
